Tasting the Best Fast Foods of India This Winter

Winter – the time of the year when we Indians indulge in food frenzies. The weather at this time of the year is perfect for many things like travelling, sightseeing and indulging in the delicacies of the season. With the demand for fast food at this time of the year also increases the demand for new delicacies and winter fast foods. Here is a list of the most popular fast foods you will find on the streets of India that we believe you should sample this winter.

Spicy Tangy Peas

This is a typical north Indian fast food that is quite favorite among the masses, especially girls because of the spice explosion that it guarantees. The humble peas are soaked in water and served with lime, fritters, tons of complimentary spices, onions and green chilies. This is simply perfect for anyone looking to indulge in a tangy snack that’s full of proteins. You may also find your peas fried depending on the location where you are having your spicy tangy peas.

Imartis

If you have a sweet tooth this one is for you. Imartis are basically flour fritters that are dunked in sugar syrup till it becomes sweet and gets crusted with sugar. It is served with curd. You may also see this served on the roadsides of North Indian cities with Rabri or other sweetened with dairy products. It is interesting to note that this Indian street food is very popular not just here but also in African nations, Middle East and Arabic nations.

Besides these, there are special fast foods. Fast food in Bangalore is different from what you will see doled out on the streets of Kolkata or Mumbai. Check out your local fast food restaurants to find out what’s new on your city streets this winter.

Healthy fast food – Truth or Myth?

About every article, blog and magazine on healthy living and eating will tell you to that fast food is absolutely rubbish and will do you no good. Then there are others that say otherwise. Who do you listen to, why is there such confusion with Healthy fast food?

The conflict of psychology

Fast food and psychology don’t seem to be in harmony with each other, but quite surprisingly there is a connection between the two. The reason you see so many Fast food restaurants around because of buyer’s psychology. Fast food is popular because it is fast. People don’t want to wait up when they are hungry and hence fast food, and let’s make no bones about the fact that it takes time to make healthy food!

This is where all the trouble starts, on one hand we want food that comes fast to us, simultaneously we expect it to be healthy. It is not entirely impossible to reconcile with our needs and still eat healthy, but it will take efforts from all stakeholders – manufacturers and consumers primarily.

What the food industry is up to?

Having said that, the need for instant gratification should not affect us the wrong way; thankfully there are fast food restaurants that are doing everything within their powers to improve the quality of food. New age foods have more micronutrients that are known to benefit consumers. There is also a very conscious effort from every conscious fast food restaurant to cut down on the amount on fats and lipids in fast food. But in order to see a complete change in the ingredients of fast food, we might have to wait an awfully long time. The challenge is in using those ‘high in micronutrient’ ingredients without bumping up costs.

What is the interpretation of ‘health’ in fast food?

What may be healthy for me may not be healthy for you. We are all entitled to our own interpretation of healthy ingredients in fast food. Fat and lard is not exactly unhealthy but consuming it in large amounts has no known good effect on our health. There are ingredients that are known to have definite health benefits but are presumed to be tasteless! Deep fried items and sweetened beverages are hardly considered healthy but the repercussion of consuming cold drinks or finger fries is not as fatal as smoking tobacco.

How to eat healthy at a Fast food restaurant?

You could exercise self-restraint and stay away from fast food all together if you are assiduous about eating healthy, but expecting fast food to change overnight is impractical. The demand for fast food will never wane off and chances of substituting it with something superbly healthy is very slim. We suggest you take the middle path. Know your constitution; understand how your body reacts to ingredients in your fast food and eat accordingly. Also, always choose a fast food restaurant that is known to serve healthy food.

The 'Farewell' Moments

The last day at college is a very emotional moment for almost everyone who has ever had a crush in college, spent days sleeping in the library, been a part of an extra curricular society or just been an active leader or supporter in college elections. From being the best student to being a back bencher, from being active in the dance society to being the teachers favourite student;all good things come to an end, so my college tenure had to end too. From making best friends to loosing old friends, from gaining popularity in college to having sleepless nights before exams and from being a fresher to graduating as a senior.I have no second thoughts when I say that college time is the best time one can ever experience in his/her life.

So on our last day in college, after our official farewell party, we decided to visit the nearest and our favourite fast food restaurant. Chinese used to be a favourite in our gang and we all used to be all over each other fighting for the unlimited food we used to order in the limited amount of money we used to have.Suddenly today, to my surprise everyone wanted to have healthy food. All women (except me of course) wanted to go on a diet! The miseries of women graduating from college to the 'real world' are many!

After a lot of discussions, we finally decided on eating at one of the best restaurants in India, which boasts of 97% fat free salads and sandwiches, thankfully satisfying the new 'we are on a diet' group and the 'we don't eat healthy food' group too. After a tasty, healthy and affordable meal we all discussed our future plans, promised to be in touch, meet once a month and bid adieu to each other, moving on to new dreams and new endeavors.

Fast Food Restaurant in India – Will you be able to find a world-class?

I love food and I need to take it every time I think of it. Researchers say men think of sex in every 5 sec but I am a bit different and in my case sex is replaced with food. Born in India, I was very much close to the traditional food but with the introduction of fast food chains in India, I am the only person who feels elated.

The most appreciable thing about fast food restaurants is their high level of service. Whether you’re happy with their food or feel low, you can easily raise your voice to them and they listen to you. This is what comes back me to them again and again. After such a long time they spend in India, I can say that now they have reached to a world-class level where they can stand and cheer up.

Those days are gone when finding a good quality fast food restaurant in India was a tedious job as today you can just login to their website and make your order right there. Things have changed tremendously over the past few months and more and expected to hit soon. I would simply say get ready to experience a new kind of fast food service in India backed by strong support.

Ways of relaxing and rejuvenating

Options to relax and rejuvenate in a city are very less. Not many options are there when it comes to recharging your batteries. One of the main things of having a nice time with oneself is enjoying and relaxing with family.

Family is one thing which is absolutely loveable. A family nurtures one’s soul and makes oneself loved. On any given holiday, spending some quite time with family at home is the best thing one can do. One can just laze around with one’s family and forget the world. Don’t you do that?

Many people also like to take off and enjoy with family on short picnics and trips. One need to understand that life is not so simple. The best ways to make it simple is to take frequent breaks from routines and just be.

Lots of people go to restaurants to eat on weekends to relax. Frankly fast food restaurant is one of better option to enjoy oneself in a causal environment. A fast food restaurant is generally casual and gives a person a break when it comes to normal and routinely food.

So the next time you want to ensure some lovely time away from work, you got to ensure that you have explored all your options. Be it spending time at home or going out.
